Step aboard Sol, a traditional Mallorcan llaut, and embark on a journey that captures the essence of the Mediterranean. Llauts are traditional wooden boats that have been an integral part of Mallorca’s maritime heritage for centuries. Our llaut, Sol, was meticulously crafted in 1973 by the esteemed master shipbuilder Jaume Cifre in Portocolom, Mallorca. Recently restored in 2023, it showcases the timeless beauty and craftsmanship of these magnificent vessels.
Llauts are renowned for their distinctive sailing characteristics. Constructed entirely of wood, they possess a unique weight that ensures a smooth and gentle navigation experience. Unlike their fiberglass counterparts, llauts glide effortlessly through the water, providing a serene and tranquil ride. Sailing on a wooden boat is truly an unforgettable experience that harks back to a bygone era.
In the past, llauts were primarily used for fishing, with llauts navigating using oars or the traditional Latin sail. However, in the 1950s, the introduction of motors revolutionized their use, and they became popular as recreational boats. These traditional vessels could be found in every port of Mallorca, serving as a means for locals to escape for a summer swim. Unfortunately, the preservation of these wooden boats has become challenging due to the high maintenance costs and the dwindling number of skilled craftsmen. In the past, boat owners possessed the knowledge to maintain and repair their llauts, but this expertise has become scarce in recent times.
Sol, our Mallorcan llaut, offers exceptional comfort and a smooth sailing experience. Restored to its former glory, it exudes charm and authenticity. Unlike modern motorized boats or rigid inflatables, Sol provides a unique and refined way to explore the coast. With its spacious deck and a large canopy providing ample shade, it offers a 360-degree panoramic view. Sailing on Sol feels akin to riding in a canoe or a vintage mehari car, allowing you to connect with the surrounding environment.
Renting Sol promises an unforgettable experience, far removed from the commercial motorized boats such as Zodiacs or rigid inflatables. It allows you to navigate gracefully and approach areas with shallow depths, offering unparalleled access to secluded beaches and pristine coves. Renters of Sol will feel like true Mallorcans, eliciting smiles from onlookers who appreciate the restoration of these beautiful boats. It radiates positive energy and fosters a sense of connection with the local culture.
The outings are offered on one of the most beautiful beaches on the island: Es Trenc.
